During his previous mandate, he held an associate position in the Montreal Executive Committee for files pertaining to youth and economic development. In 2011, Mr. Chitilian was designated the speaker of the Montreal city council and was selected amongst young politicians by the French language magazine L'Actualité, as a promising politician of his generation making him the youngest in the history of the city. Additionally, he served on the executive committee of the Conférence Régionale des Élus (CRÉ) de Montréal, the Corporation of Economic and Community Development in the borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville, as well as on the board of directors of the MR3 organization. Finally, since 2012 and until very recently, he has been the vice-chairman of the Comité Consultatif d'Urbanisme (CCU) in his borough. In the spring of 2013, he was invited to Paris by the Foreign Ministry of France to participate in the Personnalité d'avenir (Personalities of the future) program. In 2014, he was awarded the Union of Quebec municipalities' Prix de la relève» (Emerging personality) award issued to a young elected councillor of 35 years and younger for their exemplary involvement on the municipal scene.
